PSA regarding 28/11 Facebook Live

Hi all,

This has been a difficult couple of days. We would first like to say we’re so very sorry that this has happened and that it has hurt and angered so many people. Our thoughts go in particular to the young members of the LGBTQ+ community who should under no circumstances have had to hear such language, especially in a space that should be safe.

The language Dom used during yesterday’s Facebook live was inappropriate, hurtful, and unacceptable, and whilst we appreciate his taking accountability and apologising, we understand that this does not erase the incident or the hurt and anger it caused.

We started The Descent is Easy to talk about a show that we love, that we feel is interesting and important, particularly in regards to the representation the show has embraced. We have always tried, as far as is possible, to keep our criticism and our praise separated from our feelings (either positive or negative) about the cast and the other creators behind the show. With this in mind we are going to continue as normal with The Descent is Easy, and hope that you will stick with us too.

There are a lot of people whose hard work and effort goes into making this show, and if at all possible we should not let the idiocy and ignorance of one member of that team cast a permanent shadow on all.

You should know that as of Monday the 27th of November we have recorded all episodes up to the end of season 2a.

If you would like to discuss the incident with either of us, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us on our private social media accounts – rutherinahobbit and michellemisfit (tumblr) and Rutherina and michellemisfitx (twitter).

Episode 13: Dust and Shadows

A beautifully filmed, directed and acted epsiode, picking right up from the high standards set last week by the entire Shadowhunters team.

We discuss pain, self-harm, loss, grief, death… This episode of tDiE is an absolute laugh riot, basically. For a bit of levity, we do also debate Harry Shum Jr’s height, the warlock case files and Alec’s willingness to do anything to make things better with Clary, including building a pyramid of frogs. Obviously.

The discussed archery post by aimedtrue can be found here, Michelle’s obsessive mapping of Magnus’ flat can be found here.

Episode 12: Day of Wrath

In which Jace is suicidal, the Clave continue to be a despicable organisation, Izzy discovers Yin Fen, Magnus’ back story is further explored, Alec & Clary are forced to work together – which is always delightful – and difficult choices have to be made by all of our core cast.

This episode is jam packed with character development, poignant revelations, beautiful cinematography & directing and stellar acting all around.

Episode 8: Season 1 Round Up

In which we discuss the characters, plot arcs, locations and much more of Season 1, and what we are looking forward to in Season 2

We also talk about our (only slightly) Shadowhunter themed trip to New York, in which we visited various book and TV locations. Keep your eyes open for the blog post with photographs coming your way soon.

We put the locations on a google map, for you to explore

Episode 6: The World Inverted & Blood Calls To Blood

Where we discuss the logic of portals, that the law is the law and the joy of Alternative Universes, before we are surprised by meeting Jace’s dad. Who is also Clary’s dad. Curve ball!

Big kudos to MalecCrazedAuthor on tumblr for the fantastic timeline she has put together for S1 and S2 of the show. Check it out! The timeline covers both seasons in their entirety so please do not spoil yourself, if you are not caught up on all presently aired episodes.

Episode 5: Bad Blood & Rise Up

In Episode 5 Clary wavers on whether to vamp or not to vamp Simon. We meet Lydia, who it turns out we like in spite of her encouraging Alec to make dubious decisions for the both of them. We end the episode with the Downworld united, the Parabatai separated, and us contemplating hitting the whiskey to drown our sorrows.
